You Have Questions; We Have Answers

Why is it so important to fertilize my lawn? Fertilization ensures your lawn has the proper nutrition for optimal growth and healthy roots. Pre-emergent fertilizers will also control weeds and the crabgrass that can plague your lawn. These pre-emergent fertilizers also need to be applied before crabgrass and weeds germinate in early spring. Fertilization isn't a one-size-fits-all process. A soil test will determine the best fertilization program for your lawn.

What are the best ways to control weeds? A schedule of applications and treatments can ensure weed control. After a soil test, it's important to apply the right amounts of lime, nutrients and nitrogen and all at the right times. Timing is also important in either the application of pre-emergent treatments or herbicide treatments. After those treatments are complete, it is also important to make sure you're mowing the lawn at the right heights.

What do aeration and seeding do for my lawn? Aeration breaks up the soil so that oxygen and nutrients can reach the root system of the lawn. In turn, this helps to encourage root development; it can contribute to weed control and results in a lusher, greener lawn. Seeding also helps to prevent weeds from taking root. When you aerate and then seed, it allows those seeds to germinate deeper into the soil as opposed to on top of the lawn, making the lawn stronger.
